On Saturday June 20, 2020 a handful of West Jordan athletes had the rare chance to compete this season.
Austin Klinger lead the performances with a stellar 800m win over a very competitive field. He won the meet with 1:51.11. This set a new school record that stood since 1998 (1:53.70 set by Rob Erickson). This unofficially ranks Austin 6th All-Time for Utah High School runners and #1 All-Time for Juniors.
Riley Burrup, who has been dedicated and continued training during the quarantine. He ran an outdoor P.R. of 2:06.56 and placed 7th overall in the race with a great kick. Riley will greatly be missed by teammates and coaches when he moves to Florida, but we will eagerly continue to follow the times and results that Riley produces as he continues to improve as an athlete.
Abby Jackson competed well in a difficult double with a low amount of rest between her events. She won her heat of the 100m Hurdles with a P.R. of 17.28 placing 5th overall. She then placed second overall in the 800m by running a very intelligent and well paced race with a P.R. of 2:31.38.
Gentry Pierce won the 800m from the gun with an impressive time of 2:24.25. She looked incredibly relaxed and effortless during the entire performance. This performance was done essentially alone and was made more impressive by the fact that she had already run a 2:24 in practice on Monday, a 5:18 1600m Time Trial on Thursday, and a 5:15.55 1600m Time Trial for a School Record on Friday.
